The Clamp

After twenty years on the bench as a platinum and goldsmith, I realized there had to be a more efficient way to work.

When I was soldering jewelry, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get a good grip on the piece. It was either loose or so tight it damaged the piece.

As a hand fabricator of fine jewelry, I often work with high temperatures when soldering platinum jewelry. The heat from the torch would sink into all parts of the tool, making adjusting the tool quickly impossible…well, unless I wanted burns all over my hands (which I didn’t).

And, when you are building a custom piece of jewelry you need to often look at the piece from many different angles quickly. If you don’t keep checking your progress, you’ll end up with an unbalanced piece. But, the tools I had at the time made this impossible. I’d have to remove the piece from the tool, check all the sides, and then put it back into the tool…a huge waste of time.

All of these frustrations (and more) led to me designing and building THE CLAMP thirty years ago. But, being a busy jewelry manufacturer and hand fabricator, I didn’t have the time to market the tool at the time. I did however, use my original prototype for the next thirty years.

Today, I can’t do without it. It speeds me through repair and custom work on a daily basis.

After doing extensive research, I realized that today’s jewelers are still fighting with the same issues I did all those years ago.

So, I’ve partnered with a local machine shop recreate my tool for you. I’ve made sure that only the most durable materials have been used and it’s been manufactured to the same standards as my original prototype.

I believe in THE CLAMP 100%. For the past 30 years I’ve put it through it’s paces and it’s never let me down. For this reason, it’s unconditionally guaranteed. If it breaks, it will be repaired or replaced at no charge (see my FAQ page for more details).
